Setup for blogging from your phone

  1. get yourself a blogger account or google account if you don't already have one (if you're viewing this there should be a link at the top to either sign in or create an account)
    • once you have an account you can post from your computer (or crackberry or any other way you can access the web) by clicking the new post link at the top of this blog, but keep reading if you want to be able to post on the fly by sending text or picture messages from your phone
  2. send a text message to go@blogger.com
    • use that address as if it was a phone # you're texting
    • the body of the message will show up as the blog entry (the first few words will be the blog title)
  3. it will text you back with a code
    • if your phone is ghetto like mine and can't handle fancy messages you'll get a link to a webpage to retrieve the message (mine is pix.vzw.com or something like that)
  4. go to this site (http://go.blogger.com) and enter the code you got from the message
  5. login with your blogger/google account and select the option to send your mobile blogs to one of the existing blogs on your account (i.e. this one SLU RTB 2007)
    • once you do this all future text and/or picture messages you send from that phone to go@blogger.com will be zapped over and show up as posts on this blog coming from you
  6. try it out and let me know if it works or if you get stuck

If you want to send picture messages from your phone it may look like it comes from a different address than plain texts, so you should get a claim code and signup for picture messages separately. For example with Verizon, texts look like they come from mycell@vtext.com and picture messages look like they come from mycell@vzwpix.com. So I needed to send dummy messages of each type to go@blogger.com in order to get setup.
